Livia Vallini
ASTROPHYSICIST
I am a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow, working on the modelling of the insterstellar medium (ISM) of galaxies across cosmic times. Currently I work at the Leiden Observatory in Leiden, Netherlands. Before moving to the Netherlands, I worked as a NORDITA fellow in Stockholm, Sweden, and as a postdoc at the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) in Bologna, Italy. I received my PhD in 2015 from Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS) in Pisa, Italy, working within the Cosmology group.
I have bee involved in projects - often carried out in close connection with observers - that aim at constraining the ISM properties of galaxies during the Epoch of Reionization.
I developed sub-grid models that helped bridging the gap from the small scales of molecular clouds, up to the large scales followed by cosmological simulations.
My main expertise areas concern the modelling of:

My main expertise areas concern the modelling of:
- emission lines especially from the cold gas
- photodissociation and photoionization processes
- HI/H2 phase transition
- feedback and internal structure of molecular clouds
- star formation feedback
